WWBOTA – Bunkers and Amateur Radio Activations
The Link Between History and Ham Radio
The WWBOTA (World Wide Bunkers On The Air) program represents a unique fusion of amateur radio broadcasting and respect for military history. This international program allows radio amateurs to "activate" historic bunkers and fortifications using portable or mobile stations.
Concurrently, thousands of "hunters" participate by attempting to establish contact with these stations to collect unique reference numbers for each specific site.
Key Pillars of the Program
- Activation and Hunting: Free electronic awards and diplomas are granted for successful contacts and site activations.
- Flexibility: The program is open to everyone – from competitive radio amateurs collecting trophies to those who simply enjoy listening to shortwave traffic or making occasional contacts.
- Czech Footprint: The national section OKBOTA (Czech Bunkers On The Air) is a proud and active member of the global WWBOTA community and manages an extensive database of Czechoslovak fortifications.
Whether you choose to broadcast directly from the field next to these concrete witnesses of history, or hunt rare stations from the comfort of your home, the goal remains the joy of radio operation and the discovery of historical heritage.
